I am writing about this part of Germany because I find that it captured my heart because of my love for the outdoors. Bavaria is a state, 2nd most populous in Germany. It started as "The Kingdom of Bavaria" in 1806 until 1918. It borders Austria, Czech Republic and Switzerland. We stayed in the town of Garmisch.
We stayed in the Hotel Edelweiss. I highly recommend this hotel. It has a true Bavarian feel, really clean and the breakfast is top notch! The staff anticipated our every need.
In town, wonderful sights, pleasant people, old world charm.
We went to hike the partnachklamm, which is a gorge, near the arena of the 1932 Olympics.
Our friends Joachin and Evelyn who hiked with us. They work together but were fast friends with Jim and I.
The view at the top was cloudy, but spectacular.
As always, fields of flowers by His handiwork.
Inside the Olympic Arena and the ski jumps.
Bavaria (German: Bayern) is the largest federal-state of Germany, situated in the south-east of the country, and extends from the North German Plain down into the Alps. Bavaria is what many non-Germans probably have in mind when they think about Germany. Ironically, much of southern Bavaria has more in common culturally with neighboring Austria than with the rest of Germany. This stereotype includes Lederhosen (leather trousers), sausages and lots of beer.
We took a wonderful hike from the town of Farchant up to a waterfall and ate at a small italian cafe afterwards. Couldn't ask for a more rewarding day!
Time to contemplate the wonders of God.
A place to rest...
Yes we passed horses!
On the way back from Bavaria, we stopped for a few hours in the old town of Rothenburg. Most of the town, and most of the town fortress wall was saved from the 1945 bombing thanks to the Mayor Thommes, who surrendered the city. There are buildings left intact from 1250!
Repairing an old stone roof.
Hallelujah!
Timeless charm...
The English menu said it was a mini "meatloaf". Just a large hotdog!
The original stone wall.
I know this was long, and it was hard to select just a few photos, but I hope you have enjoyed part of Germany with it's old world charm. So many similarities that we all have known even is our own country, and so many differences - enough to make a difference.... God bless!
